@Fabia_ I think "bum" is only a slang word (I don't know for sure). But, all of the meanings are commonly used so everyone you talk to should under easily.
Here are a few meanings for "bum".
1. "Butt" . It's not offense. It's more cute than anything. "Bum" sounds more gentle than "butt". Teachers say it.
EX: "Sit on your bum", "Soft as a baby's bum"
2."To be sad"
Ex: "I'm bummed we couldn't go out this weekend"
3. "To be lame".
Ex: " Don't talk to him. He's a bum"

He means bum as in a homeless person who lives on the streets. It's supposed to be funny. Bum is very commonly used in that sense. It is rude to the homeless person.
It can also be used as an insult. Calling someone a bum is like calling them"low class trash."

No problem! I knew what he was referring to as soon as I heard the sound clip.
It really is quite natural in most of the country to refer to a homeless person as a bum, but it has become insulting so I would always use "homeless person" in your daily speech.
